Visible Wounds and Injuries
The markings and bloodstains on the Shroud are of sufficient clarity and anatomical accuracy to enable forensic pathologists to assess the brutal injuries suffered by the Man of the Shroud. In recent years the Shroud has been examined by several highly experienced pathologists and medical examiners who invariably have reached the same conclusion: the injuries are entirely consistent with the gospel accounts of the trial, torture and crucifixion of Jesus Christ. As you can see by following the links below, the Shroud provides a visual record that corroborates those accounts but unlike the gospels which were written several years after the crucifixion, this visual record of events was created at the time that they occurred. It is for this reason that many Shroud scholars consider this sacred cloth to be a Fifth Gospel which provides us with a powerful, visual account of the vicious brutality which Jesus Christ suffered in the hours before his death on the cross.
